Over recent months there has been increasing hype about the web, with more and more people getting 'on-line' each day. The head lines are full of "e-" this and "www" that but what does it all mean and why is it so important to small businesses in the UK?

These are good questions. First let us briefly explain what the Web and Internet are. Basically, the Internet, or Net, is a series of computers all over the world that are linked together and are able to pass information between each other. The World Wide Web, or Web, is made up of millions of documents that are stored on these computers and the documents, or pages, are linked to other pages so that a person can jump from document to document following links that interest them. Another way of navigating around the web is to use a search engine or a directory.
